Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Helpa Jamaica. By creating an account, posting a task, or making an offer, you agree to them.
Last updated: July 9, 2026 · Beta release
1. What Helpa is
Helpa is a marketplace that connects people in Jamaica who need everyday tasks done ("Posters") with people willing to do them ("Helpers"). Helpa is not the employer of any Helper and does not perform the tasks itself. Every agreement to do a task is between the Poster and the Helper.
2. Eligibility & your account
- You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter contracts in Jamaica.
- Provide accurate name, contact details and (where required) verified ID.
- You are responsible for anything done under your account. Don't share your login.
- One account per person. Helpa may suspend duplicate or fake accounts.
3. Booking fee & payment
- Helpa charges the Poster a 15% booking fee when an offer is accepted.
- The remainder of the task price is settled directly between Poster and Helper. Helpa does not (yet) hold funds in escrow.
- All prices are in Jamaican Dollars (JMD) unless stated otherwise.
- Refunds of the booking fee are governed by our Cancellation & Refund Policy.
4. Verification & high-value tasks
Tasks with a budget of JMD 10,000 or more can only be taken by Helpers who have completed ID verification. Helpa uses a third-party provider to verify identity documents. See our Privacy Policy.
5. Things you must NOT do
- Post or perform anything illegal in Jamaica.
- Ask for or perform sexual services, discrimination, harassment or violence.
- Circumvent Helpa's booking fee by moving accepted deals off-platform.
- Share personal contact details or payment links inside messages before an offer is accepted.
- Post fake reviews, fake offers, or spam.
- Impersonate anyone or misrepresent your identity, skills or qualifications.
Breaking these rules can result in account suspension, forfeited booking fees and, where applicable, referral to authorities.
6. Disputes between Poster & Helper
If something goes wrong — no-show, incomplete work, damage, disagreement over pay — the Poster and Helper should try to resolve it directly first. If you can't, use the Report button on the task or profile.
Our commitment: we acknowledge every report within 48 hours and aim to resolve within 5 business days. You can track the status on your My disputes page. Both parties see the same plain-language outcome.
Possible outcomes: no action, warning, account suspension, booking-fee refund, no refund, or a formal "at fault" record. Full details in the Cancellation & Refund Policy.
Helpa's decision on booking-fee refunds is final for beta users. Any dispute over the task price itself is between the Poster and Helper.
7. Reviews
Reviews must be honest and based on your own experience. Don't post false, defamatory, or personally identifying content. Helpa may remove reviews that break these rules.
8. Limitation of liability
Helpa is a beta product provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by Jamaican law:
- Helpa is not liable for the quality, safety, timing, legality or outcome of any task.
- Helpa is not liable for injury, loss, damage or theft arising from a task.
- Helpa's total liability to you for anything relating to the service is capped at the total booking fees you have paid Helpa in the previous 3 months.
Posters and Helpers are strongly encouraged to arrange their own insurance for high-value work.
9. Suspension & termination
Helpa may suspend or close any account that breaks these terms, harms other users, or creates legal risk. You can close your own account at any time from your profile. Booking fees already paid are non-refundable except as set out in the Cancellation Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
Because Helpa is in beta, we may update these terms as we learn what works. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email. Continued use of Helpa after a change means you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Any dispute you have with Helpa that can't be resolved informally will be handled by the courts of Jamaica.
